Advertising with Pay Per Click
Pay Per Click Can
Help Drive Revenue
If you aren't familiar with the term pay per click it's a form of
advertising online. For many business owners the thought of this
form of advertising is overwhelming and daunting. It doesn't have to
be. All you need are a few guidelines to follow and some practice
and you'll be on your way to driving traffic to your website. And
not just any traffic but targeted traffic.
The main key to using pay per click effectively is to choose keyword
phrases and keywords that are niched. What does that mean? Well
let's say for example you have a website all about dogs. If you try
to use the keyword dogs in your marketing campaign you will find
that you'll have to pay a fortune to ever reach the top spot
(generally this is the first three spots on the first page for that
specific keyword) because there is so much competition for that one
word. The term dogs is also not going to give you targeted traffic.
After all someone that types in the word dogs could be looking for
any number of things.
The idea of pay per click is to find niche keywords that are
specifically being searched for. Not only will you pay less going
this route but you will also get targeted traffic from it. Generally
whatever pay per click provider you go with they will provide you
with keyword and tracking tools to make this easier for you. You can
always use the Word Tracker tool as well. This will help you build a
list of keywords that is targeted for your market.
One of the most favorable things about using pay per click
advertising is that it's a form of instant traffic. Within about 15
minutes you can be all set up and driving traffic to your site.
So exactly how do you know what kind of niche keywords to look for?
It's imperative that you define your target market. This will need
to be figured out before you even think about using pay per click as
a marketing tool. Another strategy of pay per click, if you have a
large general website (for example one on health and fitness) is to
be sending people to a specific page of your site not just the main
page.
What that means is that you want to send your traffic to a page that
is set up to promote a specific product. Send them to a page that
will show them the benefits of your product. You want them to focus
and a main page with other things on it can be distracting. Also
provide them with something free (like a special report) in exchange
for them signing up for your mailing list.
Another key componenet to pay per click advertising is to be
efficient. As efficient as possible. You want to think long term
here instead of short term. What that means is that if you are
already sending traffic to a sign up page then you want to make sure
you are capturing their email address. This will produce long term
results because you'll be communicating with them on a long term
basis and eventually will probably make a sale.
Another strategy is to make sure that your sales page is highly
effective. This will require some work on your part to not only
produce an effective sales page but you'll need to track your
results to figure out if the page is converting well or not. You can
always test different areas on your page that are key such as the
headline or even the product price. Again you'll need to make sure
you are tracking your sales. It's all about testing and tracking to
find what works best.
It's also going to take some time and effort on your part. A good
place to start is by picking up a copy of Penny Marshall's Google
Adwords book. To get completely comfortable and knowledgeable with
pay per click it's all about hands on. You just need to get in there
and do it
